Career

A highlight of my career has been working on residential projects. I have learned the most in this area of design and I believe that my design skills are best utilized here.  I enjoy most collaborating on creative and innovative house design projects.  It is within the context of residential design that I seek to build my career.

Working in the residential design for different architecture companies has not only given me experience developing projects from a conceptual phase to construction documents, it has also increased my ambition to assess and integrate construction systems into the design process, and it has nurture my desire of learning the legal, administrative and financial aspects of the architecture practice in the United States.

Residential architecture represents the most rewarding design practice, to me.  Not only is there opportunity to grow as a designer on each new project, but understanding someone else’s vision of a family home and successfully blending their concepts into a reality is a challenge I enjoy.  Most gratifying, however, is that every project brings with it a new opportunity to connect with clients and a design team.

A designer needs to attend to every new project with the same regard and enthusiasm as the one before. The residential field makes this clear. I have gained experience in residential projects that involved close working relationships with clients.  This has given me insight in visualizing their thoughts, allowing me to capture and draw their ideas. The trial and error method brings great challenge and rewards.  It has taught me to pay great attention to details and to visualize together some else’s intentions.  This translates into an interpretation not based on effortless assumptions and conclusions, but as a work of connection and understanding. Therefore, the practice of a designer takes a different level, one that is more attached with the main principle of architecture which is in my vision:  the expression of collective dreams, thoughts and needs created into a reality and measured only by the extension of our tools and technology.

Habitat Design and Construction, Puerto Vallarta Mexico

One of the greatest influences on my professional career came from working under the supervision of Arch. Guillermo Michel Renteria from 2004 to 2005, in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. It was a thrilling experience working in his studio, Habitat Design and Construction. I deeply admired the stunning elegance and simplicity of his concepts, ideas and designs. Guillermo’s reflective and conceptual thinking manifests a great balance in color and volume creating a flowing harmony of both aesthetic and function in each project.

Stong and Associates, Berkeley CA, USA

While working with Arch. Kevin Stong at Stong and Associates in Berkeley CA,  I had the opportunity to get involved in a good variety of projects, both commercial and residential in the Bay area.

With Stong and Associates I was exposed to all process of design in projects such as auto dealerships, Single family housing projects, convenience stores and gas stations, retail stores, Christian church projects, residential renovations and tenant improvements.

Mr. Stong have worked a great range of projects national and international in his over 30 years of practice, I’ve learned a lot from his experience and his vision of architecture, we both had a lot in common from each other and I believe it’s been the right click for a strong professional relationship,we are both passionate about architecture, and both have a deep admiration for arts in general, Mr. Stong has a unique eye for photography and a remarkable skill in hand-drawing that have putted into practice with no hesitation around the world in his multiples trips.

My admiration for Kevin Stong has grown constantly since my first impression for his intuitive designing skills and for his formidable character and strength as individual. It was such a pleasure investing my time in his projects and such a rewarding experience.
